The Residents Committee have received a communication from RMG to confirm that, following guidance from both the government and Renfrewshire Council, BAE Systems have taken the decision to close the two estate playparks within Dargavel to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus. As the playparks are not cleaned or disinfected in any way they represent a potential infection risk to the children using the playparks.

As a result the smaller playpark next to the playing fields opposite Taylor Wimpey H3 has been locked and the playpark on Birch Road next to the Persimmon/Charles Church H2 parcel has had heras fencing placed around it to prevent access.

Given current government guidance this is sensible and will help to ensure that the risk of infection to young children, their families and friends is minimised as far as possible.

The Dargavel Residents Association would like to express our thanks and congratulations to all at BAE Systems and their contractor Morgan Sindall for delivering the new motorway junction three months ahead of schedule. It is a significant milestone in the overall Dargavel project and we’re sure it will be welcomed by the local community.

Welcome to our November update on Dargavel Village. Our key updates for the month are noted below.

  • Work on the new M8 junction is nearing completion with the finishing touches taking place this month. We remain on schedule to open the new junction in December 2019.
  • At the end of October, new, permanent speed limits were introduced by Renfrewshire Council on the A8 (Greenock Road). These are in advance of the new M8 junction opening next month. The new speed limits are 50mph from Red Smiddy Roundabout to the new Commonside Roundabout, and 40mph from Commonside Roundabout to the Bishopton Filling Station. However, we would like to remind drivers that the section between the two new M8 roundabouts will remain at the temporary speed limit of 30mph until the works are completed.
  • As we approach the winter months, we can confirm that we have recently re-appointed our gritting contactor, Balfour Beatty, who will be gritting Craigton Drive, Barrangary Road, Crosshill Road, Mosshall Drive, Birch Road, Aberlady Way and the park-and-ride car parks as required.

Welcome to our February 2019 update. Progress in the development continues and our updates for the month are noted below.

  • Landscaping works have started at Formakin Link within the northern area of Dargavel Village. This will open up this area of the Community Woodland Park and provide links into the wider countryside towards Formakin Estate and Whitemoss Dam. It is intended that this will be open to the public later this year.
  • The developer of the retail hub has now started building the new Sainsbury’s store together with five other retail units. It is anticipated this development will be open in August 2019.
  • We are aware there was an issue with our Freephone number this month. This has now been resolved and the line is up and running again.
  • To ease the congestion of vehicles parking on Craigton Road, we have worked with Stewart Milne Homes to provide additional contractor parking. Stewart Milne Homes are now actively monitoring and managing this issue.
  • Construction work on the new M8 junction will start again in the next few weeks. The remaining work includes road drainage, realignment of the A8 Greenock Road incorporating two new roundabouts and construction of the two new slip roads. There will be a short term disruption on the A8 and some restrictions on the motorway.

If you have any concerns or would like to speak to a member of the Programme Team, please call our freephone hotline on 0800 130 3302.

Following a number of recent incidents of inappropriate, and on occasion dangerous, parking by construction workers around Slateford Road and local side streets the Committee have raised this issue again with BAE Systems.

At our request BAE Systems have now contacted the builders directly to raise our concerns and to stress that their workers should be parking within their site compounds and not on Slateford Road or in visitor spaces within existing parcels.  Cones have been placed on Slateford Road to prevent parking around the chicane but we’re aware that this is simply limiting parking in that specific section only.  The residents association have offered to meet with representatives from BAE and the individual builders to discuss this issue.  BAE are pushing for immediate action on the part of the builders to resolve the position and we await a further update.

Welcome to our October update. As we head into the start of autumn, work continues across Dargavel Village and we will soon see construction start on two new housing areas. We have also now opened the temporary car park near to Bishopton train station, creating additional parking for the community.
October updates:
    • At the start of October, we opened the new temporary car park earlier than planned to help alleviate parking around the area due to the closure of the main train station car park for maintenance. The car park, adjacent to the current park-and-ride facility, is accessible via Station Road and provides around 100 additional parking spaces to the community
    • Two of our development partners will soon be setting up their compounds in the future retail area, near to Village Square 1A, to allow construction of their sites to begin. These compounds will provide dedicated parking for the construction teams to help reduce parking on nearby roads. In addition, one of Village Square footpaths will be closed with pedestrians being re-directed onto the block paving path
    • The contractors appointed to build Renfrewshire Council’s socially rented houses will also be setting up their compound in the coming weeks, and we expect construction to start later this month
    • Road works continue on the A8 as power and water main diversion works take place to support the new motorway junction

Welcome to our September update. There has been a lot of progress in the development over the summer ably helped by the good weather.

September updates:
  • As part of our forestry management programme a number of trees will be felled during the autumn. There is also a programme of replanting of trees planned.
  • Landscaping work is being undertaken across Craigton Park, Strawberry Lane and the Craigton Link paths. Some areas may be unaccessible whilst this landscaping takes place. Once complete these areas of the development will be handed over to the Factor.
  • We have recently completed the remediation and earthwork activity off Barrangary Road. This area of the development is earmarked for the new school and a set of apartments to be built by McCarthy Stone aimed at the over 55s.
  • Later this month will be submit a planning application to Renfrewshire Council for a new primary school in Dargavel Village.
  • In the next few months there will be road works on the A8 as power and water main diversion work takes place to support the new motorway junction.
  • Maintenance work around the suds ponds and village square areas including strimming, grass cutting and path maintenance is taking place. The work should be completed by the end of September.
  • In early October we will be opening a temporary car park adjacent to the current park and ride facility. The temporary car park will only be accessed from Craigton Drive via the new link road.

Welcome to our August update. It has been a busy start to the summer and work across the site is progressing well. Over the coming month, we will be continuing our preparations of the retail hub area ahead of construction starting later this year and will be resurfacing the carriageway on Birch Road and Station Road.

August updates:

  • We are making good progress on the construction of the new link road into the area that will become the retail hub. We expect the link road will be open to construction vehicles later this month to enable preparations to be made ahead of work beginning on the first retail units
  • Starting on Monday 13 August, we will be undertaking works on Birch Road and Station Road. These will last for approximately six weeks and will include the resurfacing of the carriageway. There will be some disruption to both Birch Road and Station Road during this time, and access to the car park will controlled by a traffic management system

Welcome to our July update. The site is extremely busy and the lovely weather is certainly helping progress in a number of areas across the village. As we are now in the holiday season we would like to ask local residents to remind their children there is a lot of construction activity in the village and they should not stray into those areas of the village being developed.

July updates:

  • Work is progressing well on the construction of a new link road into the retail sector and the temporary Phase 2 Park and Ride carpark. Access to enable the construction of the first retail units will be available at the end of August and we are hopeful to open the carpark later this year.
  • During July we will be undertaking some maintenance work to the road surface on both Station Road (leading to the underside of the Railway Bridge) and Birch Road. Neither road will close but there may be slight disruption as we put temporary traffic lights in place. It is hoped that this will impact Station Road for less than a week and Birch Road for approximately a fortnight. We would like to thank you in advance for your patience during this period.
  • Also this month both Bellway Homes and Avant will be carrying out work on the footpath and roads adjacent to their sites. This is to install and connect the necessary service connections on Slateford Road. Temporary traffic management will be put in place whilst this work is completed.
  • Renfrewshire Council have now adopted the northern section of Slateford Road (from the A8 Greenock Road roundabout to the start of 20mph zone). Enquiries regarding this section of the road should now be directed to Renfrewshire Council.

Welcome to our June update. Over the last few weeks we have continued to make good progress on the new road that will eventually connect the phase 2 park and ride carpark, the retail zone and the affordable housing plot with Barrangary Road.

May updates:

  • Work to reconstruct the eastern section of Crosshill Road was completed in early May; we would like to thank you for your patience during this time
  • Diversion work on the BT fibre cables that currently run along the A8 has begun. The work started on 22 May and is due to last six weeks. These diversions are being carried out to allow the roundabouts for the new M8 junction to be constructed. Information on when the diversion to the Scottish Water mains and the installation of new electrical supplies from Scottish Power will be announced in due course
  • At the end of 2017, BAE Systems was once again awarded the ‘Certificate of Performance Beyond Compliance’ from the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) for the fourth consecutive year. The CCS is a non-profit-making, independent organisation. The Scheme monitors the work on-site and measures it against set criteria including care of site appearance, respect for the community, protection of the environment, health and safety, security and valuing the workforce. You will now see CCS logo included on all communications from us in future
  • We recently issued the spring issue of the Bishopton programme newsletter, if you did not receive a copy then please let us know by ringing our Freephone number 0800 130 3302
  • Residents may have seen media reports regarding Crummock Construction Ltd being placed in receivership. We would like to reassure residents that we have taken steps to ensure that any disruption to ongoing construction projects is kept to a minimum.
